With the advent of the emoticons (smileys)..it became very easy to communicate emotions without any text or voice being used.
We know what each of the below symbol depicts..

For communication at a distance where it is difficult to display your feeling via facial expressions and also unnecessary to make calls or send text messages.

Visual display would be the suitable option.

Also it would be nice if there was a way to know what a person is feeling before you approach him.
